This Sir Isaac Newton One Pound Note is number DS04 343152, Signed by the Chief Cashier at the time D H F Somerset

David Somerset, or David Henry Fitzroy Somerset worked as Chief Cashier from 1980 to his retirement in 1988.

The wording on this one pound note says ‘BANK OF ENGLAND. I PROMISE TO PAY THE BEARER ON DEMAND THE SUM OF’

The words BANKOFENGLAND runs repeatedly through the security printing

There is, written in pen, the number 76 on the left hand side. Not part of the original printing, but added later by hand.

Queen Elizabeth II (1926 – 2022) is the monarch pictured on this £1 note.

The reverse of this old one pound note shows Sir Isaac Newton(1642 to 1727)

This D series £1 note was issued 9 February 1978 and withdrawn 11 March 1988.

The Isaac Newton – Green one pound note was the last one pound note made as all subsequent £1 denominations are minted as coins

On this one pound note, Sir Isaac Newton is pictured seated at a desk with an open book on his lap. The desk has a prism and a telescope on it
